like any other word in the dictionary, "tragedy" is subjective.
i admire japanese most especially in the recent tsunami/earthquake events that hit their country. although, most of us, filipinos would perceive them as "cold-hearted" - with no regards at all with the mortalities and destructions amidst them. let me share to you what a jap friend has to say in defense for his countrymen:
japanese are not very good with showing emotions, especially the men. so instead of just wallowing with the "now," they immediately think of ways to rebuild what is destroyed. perfect example is one bridge recontructed in 4 days after the tsunami.
i guess setting aside emotions works for them like wailing for filipinos - stirs up some creative idea or solution.
so another lesson learned from our jap brods (1. puntuality and 2. focus on day job - check).
